Haircut and Chocolaterie

Juni didn’t completely adapt but we’re getting there, I let Mona sleep on and had a cup of tea with Juni and mom and got some photo editing done as well. I recalled that we talked about the haircut so Jonte, me and mom went to Quiksilver again – this time in Jonte’s pride and joy, the Toyota Land Cruiser (75 Series Troopcarrier) complete with tent on top.

We didn’t get to use the tent on the way but did find that others had been clever to show up a few minutes prior to 10 so I was third in line and were to wait until 11. Well well, there were outlets for both Quiksilver and Rip Curl right next to the main stores so we managed to the pass the time.

While Jonte and mom had a fika I got the haircut and although it wasn’t LJK it ended up pretty good – given the deteriorated haircut after just over five weeks on the road most things would have been considered an improvement though.

After we got back Mona had done a bit of research so we were off to Great Ocean Road Chocolaterie and Ice-cream – to get lunch, what else? When we got there we got a bit surprised, the parking was perhaps 200 cars and the building quite large – we had expected a small artisan shop or some small factory. As we got in it was a mix of IKEA after salaries or school cantina for 9-year olds. All locals – so either this was insanely popular or we had chosen a bad Sunday for this – the total area was one third cantina, one third store and one third factory, and then add free chocolate to that.

We gave up the plans of having lunch there and went for ice-cream instead to eat on the outside, a rational choice given the dire circumstances. We met up parents and ventured back in and got out with truffles, boxes of chocolate and our hearing still intact so I consider that a win.

Something that wasn’t really a win was my left ankle – I’ve had increasing pain there over the last couple of days and resigned and applied Voltaren gel. Not sure it’s curing old age but let’s see how that develops. After dinner Mona, Janelle and Jonte watched a movie while I put Juni (and myself apparently) to bed so it was a early night tonight as well.

Sweet home Torquay

We said our goodbyes to Melbourne and checked out early, and thus managed to check in, stay and check out with actually never meet the owner of the AirBnB. It was a nice apartment though so no complains there.

Rather than staying in Melbourne we drove towards Torquay with the goal of making ourselves a fresh and hot brunch, well the two chefs maybe would contribute more than me but there’s no them in team.12112016 - iPhone Melbourne - IMG_3659

After finishing the lovely meal it was a strong focus on doing quite little. Eventually the parents showed up (after a bit of cursing of the 4G coverage along Great Ocean Road).

Some slacking later me and Mona drove to Quiksilver where Jonte had convinced me I should cut my hair at some used-to-be-hipster-barber-but-left-the-city. As a part of the style was drop-in only and there was already I guy in line so we said we would drop by tomorrow instead.

We gave Jonte and Janelle a drive into a pub since they were off to a party while we took it easy at home. I wrote up some blogs once Juni settled down and we watched a newly released episode of frequency and checked the status of Jonte and Janelle but they were having a great time so we hit the sack early in an attempt to adapt Juni’s sleep.

Banksy and Noodles

St Kilda Pier

We woke up early and headed back to St Kilda central along the waterfront. Today it was probably the warmest so far so shorts it was. We found a busy café for a breakfast in the sun on the sidewalk – I had porridge with maple syrup instead of milk because reasons.

Waning myself off these breakfasts will be tough…

We took our time but eventually headed back to pick up some bags for the longer excursion into Melbourne CBD. We took the tram (which was using VIX validators for those interested) and headed off to a Banksy exhibition. Finding the actual exhibition wasn’t as easy as one may think but eventually after walking through some shady parking house we got there.

Not entirely sure this was what he expected though…

It was a collection of prints, photos and some backstories so it gave a nice overview and a lot of the messages or images was uncannily relevant after the USA election. I was going back and forth about souvenirs but ended up getting a tote with the good old flower-throwing rioter.11112016 - Melbourne - _MG_8512

The Weather was still blue skies and warm sun so why not have a beer or to along the river? Said and done, we struggled a bit with finding a good place for the stroller but ended up near the south side bridge. The plan was to kill two hours until the Noodle Markets would open, that’s a food festival which specialize in asian street food ran annually so the timing was quite nice.

Food stalls galore and staff coming to the table asking what drinks you would like to order. Nice.

A few beers and some time later we walked into the asian food heaven which reminded me of regular music festivals although people a bit less intoxicated and the food being on a whole new level. It was hard to pick any favorites, we of course had to try almost everything, but if I were to pick one it was probably the golden bags (a bit like vegetarian gyoza).

Crispy, vegetarian goodies – I could probably live off these as the only food for a week.

After a few hours of enjoying the variety of asian tastes we headed back home after another lovely day – so I guess it’s not over until we say so.
